Study Shows Computer and Math Jobs Lead in Remote Work Adoption Across U.S.
A recent study by digital mailbox provider iPostal1 analyzed remote work patterns across various U.S. professions, measuring the proportion of fully remote workers, hybrid employees, and overall teleworking activity.
Computer and mathematical occupations top the list, with 34.9% of workers operating entirely from home, the highest proportion of fully remote employment among all sectors studied.
In the computer and mathematical field, 2.3 million of the 6.5 million U.S. workers are fully remote, and 63.2% engage in some form of remote work, representing the highest overall teleworking rate of any occupation analyzed.
Business and finance occupations ranked second for fully remote work at 27.6%, while arts, design and media occupations came in third at 24.5%.
At the opposite end, food preparation and serving occupations have the lowest share of fully remote workers at just 0.3%, reflecting the necessity of on‑site presence for many service‑industry jobs.
The study underscores continuing inequality in remote work accessibility, suggesting that policy and infrastructure efforts may be needed to broaden flexible work opportunities across all sectors.
